Riverside Music Studios has specialized in private piano lessons in NYC since 2002, when founder/director Dr. Dmitry Aleexev opened the first studio on the Upper West Side.
Our piano instructors bring a wealth of performance and teaching experience to the educational experience. We are proud to have some of the best piano teachers in NYC on our faculty.
Students in our studio range from age 4 years old to over 80. We work with absolute beginners, intermediate, and advanced musicians.
Inspire your child and keep them interested in music with our imaginative piano classes for children! Our Piano Lessons for Kids are specially designed for the needs of young students ages 4-7 by incorporating music and movement in a relaxed atmosphere.
Piano Lessons for Adults are very popular at our studio. Learn music you love to play and learn excellent technique.
You are never too old to learn how to play piano!
“My 4-year-old son started lessons with Braam and has loved going each week. Braam is patient, engaging, and has a natural way of bringing Timmy’s focus back to the piano while keeping lessons fun and encouraging practice at home. The studio is clean, welcoming, and easy to work with for scheduling. Highly recommend!”

Our piano program begins with an introductory lesson at our studios!
“Been taking lessons here for the past ~10 months or so with Tony, he’s been spectacular! As an adult student, he’s great at adapting lesson plans to what I’m interested in learning. The studio as a whole is very well organized & great with communication regarding changing lesson times etc. Highly recommend Riverside to anyone wanting to learn music”
– Thomas, student
Absolutely! We offer piano lessons for everyone; many of our students begin with no previous musical experience.
Yes! In fact, more than half of our students are adults. Whether you have always wanted to learn an instrument, are returning after many years, or are preparing for auditions or performances, we would be delighted to work with you. We do not have any age restrictions for working with adult students, and we work with many adult beginners.
Kids’ Piano lessons are available for children ages 4 and up. Schedule an introductory lesson and the music teacher will evaluate if your child is ready to start.
For adults, there are no age restrictions.
Not necessarily. For your introductory lesson, we provide everything needed, including an instrument, music books, and manuscript paper notebook. Your teacher will be happy to recommend an appropriate instrument for you to purchase or rent for ongoing piano lessons.
Our teachers work with students interested in classical, jazz, pop, Broadway, rock, contemporary, and you can combine any styles you are interested in.
You can also study songwriting, composition, and music theory with us.
We normally start with a single introductory lesson. This allows your child and/or yourself to meet your teacher, experience our teaching style, and make sure it’s a great fit before committing to weekly lessons.
We offer 30-minute, 45-minute, and 60-minute private piano lessons. You can choose any lesson duration for your introductory lesson and your teacher will recommend the best duration for you going forward.
Unlike asynchronous and pre-recorded piano tutorials, Riverside Music Studio offers a personalized learning experience. Each lesson is adapted to the students’ needs. Our piano lessons in NYC focus on classical, jazz, popular, or traditional piano pieces or any combination of music styles you like.

We are very selective and maintain a high standard in choosing instructors to work with our students. All of our piano teachers are based in NYC and have a minimum of a Master’s degree. Some instructors have their doctorate.
Most importantly, our very patient and encouraging piano instructors will keep you motivated and will help you learn to play the pieces that you love!
Yes. Working with the right piano teacher very important. If you ever feel another instructor would better suit your goals, we’ll gladly help you make the transition.
Most students attend one lesson per week. Some advanced and/or very eager students take 2 or more lessons each week.
Adult students also have an option to take bi-weekly lessons if the lessons are scheduled at the very beginning or the end of the teacher’s daily schedule.
We do, but this option is only available for adult students and the lessons must be the first or the last in the teacher’s schedule. Typical times for the bi-weekly lessons are usually around 2pm and after 7pm.
Bi-weekly lessons are not available for children as they don’t allow for consistent progress for students younger than the college age.
Yes. If you have a preference for a particular teacher, music style, or teaching style, we’ll do our best to match you with the right music instructor. We are happy to talk on the phone or review your preferences via email and text.
Our music lessons in NYC are available by monthly or semester (19 lessons) packages.
