Alexander Giacoma

Piano Teacher in NYC

Alexander Giacoma is a classically trained pianist, organist (and director of music), composer, and music educator. As a piano teacher based in the New York area, Alexander works with a wide age and skill range. His piano lessons emphasize sight-reading, performance practice, healthy technique, improvisation, and music theory literacy.

Alexander’s background is firmly grounded in the foundational traditions of early Western music and the study of counterpoint. He is also actively engaged in pedagogical and editorial projects exploring Viennese Classicism (i.e., 24 Classical Era Sonatas and Dances in Every Key), Romanticism, and Jazz. He uses these materials in piano lessons as he guides students through interpretive decisions, fingering strategies, and stylistic choices. His students are introduced to repertoire study, improvisation, and other creative applications as a natural extension of musical literacy.

Alexander holds a Bachelor of Music degree and also holds his MBA. This informs his articulation of sustainable plans and goals, structured practice strategies and routines, expectations and feedback, and support to students.

Alexander has also worked closely with Waldorf Education as a piano accompanist for Eurythmy classes. Eurythmy is Rudolf Steiner’s movement art in which musical and spoken elements are expressed through coordinated bodily gestures. The curriculum integrates music, movement, and developmental pedagogy, allowing students to experience musical structure intellectually, physically, and imaginatively. Alexander’s work with Eurythmy and Waldorf deepened his sensitivity to child developmental stages and multiple modes of engagement (aural, physical, intellectual, and emotional.) This experience continues to inform his piano teaching, particularly with younger students and beginners.

Learning, imagination, and musical intuition play a central role in piano lessons with Alexander. His piano students are shaped as musicians and as disciplined, confident learners. Piano lessons help students to perform and become leaders in every sphere of their lives.
